1. Weekly Spiritual Message

Spiritual message of the week by Father Mark:

Recently I decided to invest in a new pillow. I went to Harvey Norman and I explained to the pillow consultant that I was after a pillow that was not too firm but not too soft, not too thick but not too thin. After trying a few, I went home with the perfect pillow. Now every time I sleep on it, I remember the verse: “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” (Mat 8:20)

The scene of the Nativity is a powerful image. In it, we see the “Master, Lord, God, Creator, the invisible, the infinite, unchangeable, and immeasurable, true Light, only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ the co-eternal Logos” (Nativity Liturgy Fraction) have nowhere to lay His head except for a feeding trough. This powerful image is needed for the healing of this world and is needed for the healing of our souls. This is the image of ultimate humility. We as humans cannot be humble because we are made from dust. Dust cannot be humble. The only real humility is the act of incarnation. The emptying out of God to not only become human but to begin his visit to earth with nowhere to lay His head. This Christmas, may we see ourselves in light of this image, and may it inspire us to start again in the same fashion with which our Lord started His life on earth.

2. Schedule for Christmas

Christmas Eve – Friday 6th January – tonight!

3 early masses: 5:30- 7:30pm in the Arabic, English and Kids churches.

3 late masses: 8:30-10:30pm in the Arabic, English and Kids churches.

Note: prior to the Arabic late mass, Tasbeha in the Arabic church starts at 7:30 pm.

Christmas Day – Saturday 7 January

Christmas Day Sunday School Celebration for Kindy to Year 4: 10:00am to 12:30 pm.

Important to note – Please do not park in the Church Car park on Saturday morning to make way for the celebration and activities to be held in the car park.

3. Sunday School Classes

The Sunday School classes schedule for this weekend is as follows:

Saturday 7/1 –> Sunday School is OFF (Will have Christmas celebration)

Sunday 8/1 –> Sunday School is ON

4. Cymbals Competition

Calling ALL Years 5 and 6 Sunday School Girls and Boys to learn to play Cymbals and win!
Competition is open to all Year 5-6 children who don’t know how to play the cymbals. Top prize 🏅 $100. Competition date (recital) is on 29 Jan 2023, after Sunday School.

5. Men’s clothing needed

Saint Mark’s Church has a COCOS charity clothing bin. The purpose of the bin is to collect clothing for the homeless and others that live in poverty. The clothing is distributed by the Coptic Orthodox Community Outreach Service (COCOS) every week in Woolloomooloo, Liverpool, Blacktown and Parramatta. COCOS Inc. is a charity under the Coptic Orthodox Church, Diocese of Sydney and Affiliated Regions.

Many members of the Saint Mark’s congregation participate in this service alongside members of other churches and the broader community. It is one of the many ways that our church engages with others in a spirit of support, compassion and care.

Our community can support those in need by donating men’s clothing and other needed items (no women’s or children’s clothing please). Although we do serve women in need, we have a great deal of women’s clothing from other sources. The items donated do not need to be new, just in good condition.

The following items for men are most needed:

– T-shirts, polo shirts, singlets, dress shirts

– jeans, tracksuit pants, cargo pants and shorts

– new underwear and socks

– casual and sport shoes

– backpacks, toiletries and belts

When donating, please ensure that all items are bagged and put inside the bin. The charity bin is emptied regularly in readiness for service each week.

6. Kenya Mission 2023 Trip

St Marks Coptic church Sydney is pleased to announce a Kenya Mission 2023 trip for youth and servants from 18th July to 1st August 2023.

The trips will be focused on daily spirituality, service in villages, orphanages, prisons, churches, daily masses, church and community building, medical campaigns and the needs of the poor and needy.

يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس أبونا مارك،

قررت من فترة قريبة الاستثمار في وسادة جديدة. ذهبت إلى "هارفي نورمان" وشرحت للمتخصص في الوسائد أنني كنت أستخدم وسادة ليست جامدة جدًا وليست لينة جدًا، وليست سميكة جدًا وليست رفيعة جدًا. بعد تجربة عدد من الوسائد، عدت إلى المنزل ومعي الوسادة المثالية. والآن كل مرة أضع رأسي عليها، أتذكر الآية التي تقول: "للثعالب أوجرة ولطيور السماء أوكار، أما ابن الإنسان فليس له أين يسند رأسه". مت: ٨:٢٠

إن مشهد الميلاد مشهد مؤثر وقوي. حيث نرى "السيد، الرب، الإله، الخالق، غير المرئي، اللانهائي، غير المتغير، غير المحدود، النور الحقيقي، الابن الوحيد، يسوع المسيح، الكلمة الأبدي" (جزء من قسمة قداس الميلاد) ليس له مكان يضع رأسه عليه إلا حوض علف البهائم. هذا المشهد القوي ضروري لشفاء هذا العالم ونحتاجه لشفاء أرواحنا. هذا هو مشهد التواضع المطلق. نحن كبشر لا يمكن أن نكون متواضعين لأننا مخلوقين من التراب. لا يمكن للتراب أن يتواضع. التواضع الحقيقي والوحيد هو حدث التجسد. إن إخلاء الله لذاته ليس ليصير إنسانًا فقط، بل وليبدأ زيارته إلى الأرض بلا مكان يسند فيه رأسه. في عيد الميلاد هذا، فلنرى أنفسنا في ضوء هذا المشهد، لعله يلهمنا أن نبدأ من جديد بنفس الطريقة التي بدأ بها ربنا يسوع المسيح حياته على الأرض.

٥.مطلوب ملابس رجالي للذين بلا مأوى

يوجد لدى كنيسة سانت مارك صندوق خيري لتجميع الملابس. الغرض من الصندوق هو جمع الملابس للذين بلا مأوى وغيرهم ممن يعانون من الفقر. تقوم مؤسسة التواصل المجتمعي القبطية الأرثوذكسية (COCOS) بتوزيع الملابس كل أسبوع في المناطق التالية ولومولو وليفربول وبلاكتاون وباراماتا. Inc.إن COCOS هي مؤسسة خيرية تابعة للكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية وأبرشية سيدني وتوابعها.

يشارك العديد من أعضاء كنيسة القديس مرقس في هذه الخدمة جنبًا إلى جنب مع أعضاء الكنائس الأخرى والمجتمع الأوسع. إنها إحدى الطرق العديدة التي تتعامل بها كنيستنا مع الآخرين بروح من الدعم والرحمة والرعاية.

يمكن لمجتمعنا دعم المحتاجين من خلال التبرع بملابس الرجال والأشياء الأخرى المطلوبة (يُرجى عدم التبرع بملابس النساء أو الأطفال). على الرغم من خدمتنا للنساء المحتاجات، إلا أننا نمتلك قدرًا كبيرًا من الملابس الحريمي من مصادر أخرى. لا يلزم أن تكون البنود التي يتم التبرع بها جديدة، بل فقط في حالة جيدة.

عند التبرع بملابس، يُرجى وضعها في أكياس ووضعها في صندوق تجميع الملابس، استعداداً للخدمة يتم تفريغ الصندوق اسبوعياً.

وستركز الرحلة على الممارسات الروحية اليومية والخدمة في القرى ودور الأيتام والسجون والكنائس والقداسات اليومية وبناء الكنيسة والمجتمع والحملات الطبية واحتياجات الفقراء والمحتاجين.
