Recently, I was catching the train to the city when a gentleman boarded and sat beside me. He introduced himself as a retired Anglican priest, and we enjoyed a pleasant conversation throughout the journey.
When he reached his stop and was about to get off, he turned to farewell me. What he said as he left caught my attention and stayed with me.
Rather than the usual “See you later,” “See you tomorrow,” or “Hope to see you soon,” he simply said, “See you up there!” ☝️
Such a simple farewell, yet what a profound reminder of how we are called to live our lives!
Imagine living each day with the awareness that our life has a destination, that none of us knows how many days we have been given, and that our ultimate hope is the resurrection and eternal life with Christ.
Imagine approaching every encounter with others knowing that it may be our last opportunity to show love, offer kindness, extend forgiveness, or speak a word of encouragement.
Imagine keeping heaven before our eyes, allowing the hope of eternity to shape our priorities, our decisions, our relationships, and the way we live each day.
As St Paul reminds us:
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2)
Perhaps this is how we should live: not simply counting the days until we meet again, but living each day in preparation for the day we meet Him.
“See you up there!” ☝️
