Bishop Rafael

A question came to Bishop Rafael from a member of the congregation asking, “I don’t fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. Would that stop me from getting into heaven?”

The bishop wisely answered, “If you make it to heaven, you will be sitting with the ones who are non-fasting Wednesdays-and-Fridays people”.

I believe many of us are falling into the sin of gluttony. I’ll tell you a practical way out of this sin: Fasting every Wednesday and Friday. Think of it: It is enough to please your body 5 days a week with delicious food and drinks, so decide and be proud to discipline your body 2 days a week.

The bible teaches us that food is a source of life to the body but fasting and asceticism are sources of life to the spirit.

As 1 Corinthians 15:44 states, “It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body”. This spiritual body will be powerful and free from the limitations of the earthly one, which is subject to sin, decay, and death. It is a body perfectly suited for eternal life in God’s presence.

Early Church fathers used to take Wednesdays-and-Fridays fasting very seriously. All the Church fathers conducted this ascetic discipline, perceiving it as a vital need for the spirit. So let us follow in their footsteps by practicing and promoting Wednesdays-and-Fridays fasts.

3. Priesthood Ordination of Dr Daniel Ishak

Prayer Evening
Friday 7 Nov 2025

The priest is supported by the prayers of the congregation.

Please join us the night before Daniel’s ordination for a prayer meeting at St John’s Church, dedicated to praying for Daniel, his family and their new ministry.

It is also an opportunity to hand to Daniel any prayers to present to God in his 40-day monastery retreat in Egypt. Details in poster.

4. St Mark’s Church Clean Up Day

١. الرسالة الروحية الأسبوعية

يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس ابونا جوناثان

الأنبا رافائيل

جاء سؤال إلى نيافة الأنبا رافائيل من أحد أفراد الشعب يقول فيه:

«أنا لا أصوم يومي الأربعاء والجمعة، فهل هذا يمنعني من دخول السماء؟» فأجاب الأسقف بحكمة قائلاً:

«إذا وصلت إلى السماء، فستجلس مع الذين لا يصومون الأربعاء والجمعة».

أعتقد أن كثيرين منا يقعون في خطية الشَّرَه. وسأخبركم بطريقة عملية للخروج من هذه الخطية: الصوم يومي الأربعاء والجمعة.

فكّر في الأمر: يكفي أن تُرضي جسدك خمسة أيام في الأسبوع بالطعام والشراب الشهي، فقرّر وافتخر بأن تُدرّب جسدك يومين في الأسبوع على الانضباط.

يُعلّمنا الكتاب المقدّس أن الطعام هو مصدر حياة للجسد، لكن الصوم والزهد هما مصدر حياة للروح.

كما ورد في (1 كورنثوس 15: 44):

«يُزرَع جسدًا حيوانيًّا ويُقام جسدًا روحانيًّا. يوجد جسد حيواني ويوجد جسد روحاني».

هذا الجسد الروحاني سيكون قويًّا ومتحررًا من قيود الجسد الأرضي الخاضع للخطية والفساد والموت. إنه الجسد الذي يتناسب تمامًا مع الحياة الأبدية في حضرة الله.

كان آباء الكنيسة الأوائل يأخذون صومي الأربعاء والجمعة بجدّية كبيرة. فقد مارس جميع آباء الكنيسة هذا الانضباط النسكي معتبرين إيّاه ضرورة حيوية للروح.

فلنسِر على خُطاهم بممارسة وتشجيع صوم الأربعاء والجمعة.

٢. رسامة الدكتور دانيال إسحق كاهن

يَستمدّ الكاهن قوّته من صلوات الشعب. نرجو انضمامكم إلينا في الليلة التي تسبق سيامة دانيال لحضور اجتماع صلاة في كنيسة القديس مار يوحنا، مكرَّس للصلاة من أجل دانيال، وأسرته، وخدمتهم الجديدة.

كما ستكون هذه فرصة لتسليم دانيال أي صلوات ليرفعها إلى الله خلال فترة خلوته في الدير التي تمتد لأربعين يومًا في مصر.

٣. الهولي ويين – يوم الجمعة ٣١ أكتوبر

لا تدع الهولي ويين يفوتك هذا العام! أمسية مليئة بالمرح يمكن لجميع أفراد العائلة الحضور فيها مرتدين أزياء قديسيهم المفضلين. يوم الجمعة ٣١ أكتوبر الساعة ٦:٣٠ م! نعدكم بأنكم لن تُصابوا بخيبة أمل — فهناك الكثير لتروه وتفعلوه. تعالوا واستمتعوا بالتعرّف على قديسينا الرائعين.
