St Peter writes in his first epistle: “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12–13). When difficulties come, many people respond in one of three ways: they may grow bitter and grumble against God, they fall into confusion and wonder why such a thing has been allowed to happen, or they may pray only that the trial would quickly pass away.
St Peter offers us a fresh perspective. As followers of Christ, we should not be surprised when trials come. They are part of our journey with Him. Rather than being overwhelmed with bitterness or confusion, we are called to look to the cross and rejoice that we are counted worthy to partake in Christ’s sufferings.
St Paul lived by this truth and wrote about it often. For example, he writes, “…if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:17). Again, he says, “For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:5).
May we, therefore, learn to look to the Cross during our trials and not lose heart. Even in pain and difficulty, the Lord comforts His people. If we endure with Him, we will also reign with Him. |

2. Year 12 Boys Fudraiser Sunday 21 September Fund-raiser for year 12 boys’ end of year trip to the Coptic Orphanage in Thailand
This Sunday from 10am at the fund-raising table in front of the playground grass area
Silent auction (can write down their bids). Mix of other small gifts for sale.
Profits will go towards building a sports court for the children of the orphanage.

3. Feast of the Cross and Night with Saints We joyfully invite you to join us in celebrating the Feast of the Cross with the following services:
1. Friday, 26th September – Vespers at 7:00 pm We will hold a procession around the church at the 12 icon representing the crosss withb Gospel readings. Followed by short spiritual talks.
2. Saturday, 27th September – Vespers at 6:30 pm On this blessed evening we will: – Celebrate the second day of the Feast of the Cross. – Honor the saints of the month. – Pray for and celebrate the beginning of the HSC exams with our students and their families.
The program will include:
Distribution of gift Crosses for all HSC students to keep with them during their exams A gift for each family A light supper
We warmly encourage all students and their families to join us for this blessed occasion. Let us gather together in prayer, praise, and unity, asking for God’s blessing and success for our HSC students. |

4. Private Screening Light of the World We’re excited to invite all the St Marks Church family to a private screening of the animated biblical film “Light of the World”.
Light of the World is a breathtaking animation for the whole family which follows Jesus’ life from ministry beginnings through crucifixion, resurrection, as seen through Apostle John’s eyes.

5. Online Bereavement Support Group We are preparing to begin our next Bereavement Support Group online, starting the week of October 6 (exact day and time to be confirmed based on the preferences of attendees).
These will be small, supportive groups where participants can walk together in faith through the journey of grief.

St Mark’s Church is pleased to announce a new parking arrangement to better serve our congregation and community.
We have secured exclusive access to the Arncliffe West Infants School Car Park on Sunday mornings every week.
Location: Arncliffe West Infants School Car Park, Loftus Street
Let’s make good use of this generous opportunity to help ease parking for our neighbours and strengthen our ties with the local community.
Important to note: The carpark will be locked from 1pm on Sundays, so please ensure your cars are removed before this time.

يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس ابونا إيلايجا كتب القديس بطرس في رسالته الأولى: «أَيُّهَا الأَحِبَّاءُ، لاَ تَسْتَغْرِبُوا الْبَلْوَى الْمُحْرِقَةَ التي بَيْنَكُمْ حاصلة لِأجل امْتَحِانَكُمْ، كَأَنَّهُ أَصَابَكُمْ أَمْرٌ غَرِيبٌ. بَلْ كَمَا اشْتَرَكْتُمْ فِي آلاَمِ الْمَسِيحِ، افْرَحُوا، لِكَيْ تَفْرَحُوا فِي اسْتِعْلاَنِ مَجْدِهِ أَيْضًا مُبْتَهِجِينَ» (١بطرس ٤: ١٢–١٣). عندما تواجهنا صعوبات، فإن كثيرين يستجيبون بإحدى ثلاث طرق: إما أن يمتلئوا مرارة ويتذمروا على الله، أو يسقطوا في الحيرة ويتساءلوا لماذا سُمح بحدوث مثل هذا الأمر، أو يصلّوا فقط لكي تنتهي التجربة سريعًا. لكن القديس بطرس يعطينا منظورًا جديدًا. كأتباع السيد المسيح، لا يجب أن نُفاجأ عندما تأتي التجارب، فهي جزء من رحلتنا معه. وبدلًا من أن نُقهر بالمرارة أو الارتباك، نحن مدعوون أن ننظر إلى الصليب ونفرح لأننا اعتُبرنا مستحقين أن نشترك في آلام المسيح. وقد عاش القديس بولس بهذه الحقيقة وتحدث عنها كثيرًا. فعلى سبيل المثال، كتب: «إِنْ كُنَّا نَتَأَلَّمُ مَعَهُ، لِكَيْ نُتَمَجَّدَ أَيْضًا مَعَهُ» (رومية ٨: ١٧). وأيضًا قال: «لأَنَّهُ كَمَا تَكْثُرُ آلاَمُ الْمَسِيحِ فِينَا، كَذَلِكَ بِالْمَسِيحِ تَكْثُرُ تَعْزِيَتُنَا أَيْضًا» (٢كورنثوس ١: ٥). فلنتعلّم إذًا أن ننظر إلى الصليب في أوقات تجاربنا، وألا نيأس. حتى في وسط الألم والمشقة، الرب يُعزّي شعبه. وإن كنا نصبر معه، فسنملك أيضًا معه ٢. حملة جمع تبرعات لطلبة الصف الثاني عشر – الأحد ٢١ سبتمبر
