“New year, new me.”

 

I’ve heard this phrase many times over the last few days — and it’s a great sentiment; one that our Lord encourages us to pursue in Him. Deep down, it’s a longing for a fresh start… for change… for something better. And that’s exactly what Christ offers us.

 

This week we celebrate the Feast of our Lords Theophany — the baptism of our Lord in the Jordan. Jesus didn’t need repentance or renewal, yet He stepped into the water for us. He showed us the path to becoming new: leaving the old behind and rising to live differently.

Theophany is an invitation — not just to feel inspired, but to actually change direction.

 

So, let’s make it practical.

• Reconcile with someone you’ve been avoiding. Send the message. Make the call. Take the first step.
• Love more intentionally — especially the people who are hardest to love.
• Forgive faster. Let go of grudges that have been quietly poisoning your heart.
• Give more — your time, your attention, your generosity — without waiting to be thanked.
• Pray a little more honestly, even if it’s messy and imperfect.
• Walk away from habits that pull you away from God, and take even just one small step toward holiness.

Repentance is not just about guilt or shame. It’s also about making a change. One decision at a time. One softened heart. One step closer to Christ.

 

St Paul reminds us:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

(Romans 12:2)

 

This year doesn’t need a “new you” driven by willpower alone.

It needs a new heart, shaped by Christ.

 

May this Theophany be the moment we stop drifting… and start walking intentionally with God again.

١. الرسالة الروحية الأسبوعية

يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس ابونا ديفيد

«سنة جديدة، انسان جديد».

سمعتُ هذه العبارة كثيرًا خلال الأيام القليلة الماضية — وهي عبارة جميلة، وتشير إلى معنى يشجّعنا فيه ربّنا أن نسعى إليه. في عمقها، تعبّر عن شوق لبداية جديدة… للتغيير… لشيء أفضل. وهذا بالضبط ما يقدّمه لنا السيد المسيح.

في هذا الأسبوع نحتفل بعيد الظهور الإلهي— معمودية ربّنا يسوع المسيح في نهر الأردن. لم يكن يسوع بحاجة إلى توبة أو تجديد، ومع ذلك دخل المياه من أجلنا. لقد أرانا الطريق ليجددنا – أن نترك القديم وراءنا ونقوم لنحيا حياة مختلفة.

عيد الظهور الإلهي هو دعوة — ليس فقط للشعور بالإلهام، بل لتغيير الاتجاه فعليًا.

فلنجعل الأمر عمليًا:

• تصالح مع شخص كنتَ تتجنّبُه. أرسل رسالة. أجرِ اتصال. خُذ الخطوة الأولى.
• أحبّ بمحبة أعمق وبقصدٍ أوضح — وخاصة أولئك الذين يصعب حبّهم.
• سامح اسرع. تخلَّ عن الضغائن التي كانت بهدوء تسمّم قلبك.
• أعطِ أكثر — من وقتك، واهتمامك، وكرمك— دون انتظار الشكر.
• صلِّ بصدقٍ أكبر، حتى وإن كانت صلاتك غير مرتّبة أو غير كاملة.
• ابتعد عن العادات التي تُبعدك عن الله، وخُذ ولو خطوة صغيرة واحدة نحو القداسة.

التوبة ليست مجرّد شعور بالذنب أو الخجل. إنها أيضًا صنعُ تغيير. قرارًا بعد قرار. قلبًا يلين شيئًا فشيئًا. خطوة أقرب إلى السيد المسيح.

يذكّرنا القديس بولس الرسول:

«ولا تُشاكِلوا هذا الدهر، بل تغيّروا بتجديد أذهانكم».

(رومية 12: 2)

هذا العام لا يحتاج إلى «نسخة جديدة منك» مدفوعة بقوة الإرادة وحدها، بل يحتاج إلى قلب جديد، يتشكّل على مثال السيد المسيح.

ليكن عيد الظهور الإلهي هذا هو اللحظة التي نتوقّف فيها عن الانجراف… ونبدأ من جديد السير مع الله بقصدٍ ووعي.

جميع قداسات صباح يوم الأحد 18 يناير ستكون كالمعتاد، وجميع فصول مدارس الأحد ستستمر دون أي تغيير.

سيقام قدّاسان مسائيّان يوم الأحد 18 يناير:

• الكنيسة العربي: من 7:30 م حتى 10:30 م، وتشمل صلوات اللقان.
• الكنيسة الإنجليزي: من 7:30 م حتى 10:30 م، وتشمل صلوات اللقان.

ملاحظة:

صوم البرامون (فترة الاستعداد) يوم الجمعة 16 يناير، والسبت 17 يناير، والأحد 18 يناير بدون مأكولات بحرية.

لن تقام قداسات صباح يوم الاثنين 19 يناير.
