1. Weekly Spiritual Message
Spiritual message of the week by Father Mark:
Upon reading the lives of our saintly desert fathers, you will quickly notice two very common trends:
i) They all lived their lives in the quest for spiritual perfection
ii) They practiced extreme forms of physical asceticism I believe these two simple observations, shed light on the perspective and purpose of fasting. One is the aim, and the other is the means. Although, this may seem to be obvious, we often lose perspective forgetting the aim (spiritual
perfection) while aiming at the means (fasting).
St. John Chrysostom explains it as follows:
“Do you fast? Give me proof of it by your works.
If you see a poor man, take pity on him.
If you see a friend being honoured, do not envy him.
Do not let only your mouth fast, but also the eye and the ear and the feet and the hands and all the members of our bodies.
Let the hands fast, by being free of avarice.
Let the feet fast, by ceasing to run after sin.
Let the eyes fast, by disciplining them not to glare at that which is sinful.
Let the ear fast, by not listening to evil talk and gossip.
Let the mouth fast from foul words and unjust criticism.
For what good is it if we abstain from birds and fishes, but bite and devour our brothers?”
So if we would like to offer an acceptable fast to the Lord, let us not only offer the fasting of food, but moreover the fasting of the soul, as John Cassian teaches us saying: "We should not be confident that the outside fasting of food is enough alone for the purity of the heart and body, unless it is accompanied by the fasting of the soul."
2. Feast of the Cross – Saturday 19 March
The Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Cross for 3 days (Saturday 19/3, Sunday 20/3 and Monday 21/3)
Vespers for The Feast of the Cross is on Friday night 18 March at 7pm.
Feast of the Cross early morning procession in the raising of incense on Saturday 19 March from 5:30am followed by liturgy, to finish at 8am.
3. Parents ‘Meet and Greet’ event for Sunday School Year 5 and Year 6.
Join us this Sunday the 20th of March for our parents meet and greet event for the Sunday School Years 5 and 6, at 10:45 – 12pm @ covered area behind the bookshop.

5. St Wanas Disaster Relief Fund

Registration is now OPEN for our much-anticipated combined LENTEN RETREAT between the Diocese of Melbourne and Diocese of Sydney, with special guest H.G. BISHOP THOMAS.
Bishop Thomas looks after the Diocese of Al-Qusiiyah and Miir in Assiut, and the Anaphora Retreat, a popular destination visited by our youth when in Egypt. Youth have turned into his talks worldwide, and His Grace has also featured on several Christian Youth Channel programs.

8. St Mark’s Saturday family fun day
Please join us this Saturday, 19th of March for a parent picnic with Fr Mark 10:30-11:15am followed by a kid’s fun fair 11:15-1:00pm
(precreche-Yr6) with jumping castle, fun games, face painting and more
The aim of this event is to introduce families to the Saturday SS service offered at St Marks every Saturday.
9. My First Synaxarium Project
Calling all creative primary school kids to compete in our Synaxarium competition!
All you have to do is to choose your favourite saint from the list of saints below, compose their story in 125 words or less and include an illustration of the saint to be a part of our competition. Your story will also be included in the official publication of "My First Synaxarium"!
First prize is $100 voucher, 2nd prize is $50 voucher, 3rd prize is $20 voucher AND the three winners will have their version of the story (edited) included in the book. The published illustration will be based on the winning entry’s illustration, and using the facial features of the child.
Due: April 15th at 5pm

10. Bereavement Announcement for beloved Zakia Bakhit
Our dearest mother and grandmother returned to the embrace of our Lord. Mum was the beloved wife of late Tadrous Nosshy, mother of Talaat Tadrous, mother-in-law to Hanan Tadrous, grandmother to Mark, Marina and Maria Tadrous; mother of Mervat and Emad Tadrous in Australia and mother of Medhat and Esmat Tadrous in Egypt.
Condolences (Azza) will be held on Saturday March 19 at 6pm in St Mark’s Church hall.
May God repose her soul and give comfort to family and friends.

عند قراءة حياة آبائنا القديسين في البرية ، نلاحظ بسرعة اتجاهين شائعين للغاية:
أ) لقد عاشوا جميعًا حياتهم في البحث عن الكمال الروحي
ب) لقد مارسوا أشكالاً متطرفة من الزهد الجسدي.
أعتقد أن هاتين الملاحظتين البسيطتين تلقيان الضوء على منظور وهدف الصيام. واحد هو الهدف والآخر هو الوسيلة. على الرغم من أن هذا قد يبدو واضحًا ، إلا أننا غالبًا ما نفقد المنظور وننسى الهدف (الكمال الروحي) بينما نهدف للوسيلة (الصوم)
يشرحها القديس يوحنا الذهبي الفم على النحو التالي:
” هل أنت صائم؟ أعطني دليلاً على ذلك من خلال أعمالك.
إذا رأيت رجلاً فقيرًا، اشفق عليه.
إذا رأيت صديقًا يتم تكريمه، فلا تحسده.
لا تصوًم فمك فقط بل صوًم العين والأذن والرجلين واليدين وكل أعضاء أجسادنا
دع الأيدي تصوم، من خلال التحرر من الجشع.
دع القدمين تصومان، بالتوقف عن الجري وراء الخطيئة.
دع العيون تصوم، بتأديبها على عدم التحديق في ما هو خطيئة.
دع الأذن تصوم، بعدم الاستماع إلى الكلام الشرير والقيل والقال.
ليصوم الفم عن الكلام البذيء والنقد الجائر.
فما الفائدة ان امتنعنا عن الطيور والسمك بل عضّنا اخوتنا وأكلناهم.
لذلك إذا أردنا أن نقدم صومًا مقبولاً للرب، فلنقدم ليس فقط صيام الطعام، ولكن أيضًا صوم الروح، كما يعلمنا جون كاسيان قائلاً: ينبغي ألا نثق في أن الصوم الخارجي عن الطعام يكفي وحده لطهارة القلب والجسد، إلا إذا كان مصحوبًا بصوم النفس ".

تم الآن فتح باب التسجيل للاشتراك في خلوة الصوم المقدس التي طال انتظارها والمشتركة بين إيبارشية ملبورن وإيبارشية سيدني، مع الضيف الخاص نيافة الأنبا توماس.
يعتني نيافة أنبا توماس بأبرشية القوصية ومير في أسيوط، ومكان الخلوة المعروف باسم "الأنافورا"، وهو جهة شهيرة يزورها شبابنا أثناء تواجدهم في مصر. ينجذب الشباب إلى أحاديثه في جميع أنحاء العالم، كما ظهر نيافته في العديد من برامج قناة سي واي سي.

كل ما عليك فعله هو اختيار القديس المفضل لديك من قائمة القديسين أدناه، وتأليف قصتهم في 125 كلمة أو أقل وتضمين صورة للقديس لتشترك في المسابقة. سيتم تضمين قصتك أيضًا في المنشور الرسمي لـ "My First Synaxarium"" سنكساري الأول"
الجائزة الأولى قسيمة قيمتها ١٠٠ دولار، والجائزة الثانية قسيمة قيمتها ٥٠ دولار، والجائزة الثالثة قسيمة قيمتها 20 دولار، وسيتم تضمين نسخة من القصة (محررة) للفائزين الثلاثة في الكتاب. سيعتمد الرسم التوضيحي المنشور على الرسم التوضيحي للمشاركة الفائزة مع استخدام ملامح وجه الطفل.

عادت الأم والجدة الغالية إلى حضن ربنا يسوع المسيح. كانت أمي الزوجة الغالية للراحل تادرس نصحي، ووالدة طلعت تادرس، وحماة حنان تادرس، وجدة مارك ومارينا وماريا تادرس. ووالدة ميرفت وعماد تادرس في استراليا ووالدة مدحت وعصمت تادرس في مصر.
