Spiritual message of the week by Father Augustinos:
To love fasting
As we are about to start Jonah’s fast and the Great Lent a very important aspect of the spiritual life, or one might better say an essential part of the spiritual life –is Fasting and not just fasting but to “love fasting” and understand the beauty of fasting.
Throughout the spiritual tradition, we have heard the Saints tell us that “prayer without fasting is weak” or that “where there is no prayer and fasting there are demons.”
With the coming of Christ, however, we see a unique and distinctive meaning of fasting emerge. It is not only a discipline to help order the appetites or a form of penitence. It is tied directly to Christ: what we see is Christ Himself practice fasting and what He teaches us about it. Christ teaches us that our practice of fasting is tied to our desire for Him. He is the Heavenly Bridegroom and each soul the Bride therefore fasting deepens our prayer and the desire for the bridegroom Christ, it allows a deep intimacy for the love of Christ. We see and experience in Christ the One alone who can satisfy the deepest desires of the human heart. He is the Bread of Life. By fasting we learn to hunger and thirst for Christ.
Practising fasting is not about abstaining from food but seeing it as something that is to be “loved”, precisely because it draws us to Christ. It is not a discipline but a path to draw nearer to the Beloved.
Very Important Message
Following up on last week’s very important message by Abouna Yacoub and showing his Kindness, love and advice on where to find the key to God’s mercy, I need to be reminded in my 28 years of Priesthood I have now served with Abouna Yacoub for 26 years and there is so much I can tell however this I will leave for now. But where did the fathers and I learn everything good? There is only one brilliant teacher Fr Y and his fatherhood!!! So if you want the original key to God’s mercy you need to go to Fr Y and do exactly what he tells you to do…

What: Jonah’s fast revival night of prayer, talks & hymns (English and Arabic combined)
When: 7:00-8:30pm, Mon-Wed
Where: Arabic church
Who: All St Marks priests over the three days, with short talks catered to Arabic & English speakers.
Also, the three days will be streamed on YouTube for those who can’t make it in-person.

١.الرسالة الروحية الأسبوعية
يقدم رسالة هذا الأسبوع قدس ابونا أغوسطينوس
محبة الصوم
ونحن نقترب من صوم يونان والصوم الكبير،هناك عامل هام في الحياة الروحية، بل نستطيع أن نقول هناك جزء ضروري في الحياة الروحية- وهو الصوم وليس مجرد الصوم بل مجبة الصوم وإدرك جماله.
من خلال التقليد الروحي نسمع من القديسين “أن الصلاة بدون صوم ضعيفة ” أو “حيث لا يوجد صوم وصلاة توجد الشياطين”.
ولكن، نتج عن مجيئ السيد المسيح، معنى فريد ومميز للصوم. لم يعد الصوم فقط نوع من أنواع ضبط النفس وتنظيم الشهية أو كنوع من التقشف. بل هو مرتبط مباشرةً بالسيد المسيح. نرى السيد المسيح يمارس الصوم ويعلمنا أياه. يعلمنا أن ممارستنا للصوم مرتبطة برغبتنا فيه هو شخصياً. هو العريس السماوي لكل نفس التي هي العروس ولذلك فأن الصوم يعمق صلاوتنا ورغبتنا في السيد المسيح العريس. الصوم يسمح بعلاقة حميمة بسبب محبة المسيح. نحن نرى ونختبر إن السيد المسيح هو الوحيد الذي يشبع الرغبات العميقة التي في قلب الانسان. هو خبز الحياة. نتعلم بالصوم أن نجوع ونتعطش إلى السيد المسيح.
إن ممارسة الصوم ليست الامتناع عن الطعام بل هو شيء نحبه لأنه يقربنا من المسيح. هو ليس ظبط للنفس بل هو طريق يقربنا من السيد المسيح.
رسالة هامة جداً
تعقيباً على رسالة ابونا يعقوب الهامة جداً في الأسبوع الماضي فقد اظهر بحنانه ومحبته ومشورته عن المكان الذي نجد فيه مفتاح رحمة الله. أريد أن اذكر نفسي أنه خلال 28 سنة كهنوت، لقد خدمت مع ابونا يعقوب 26 سنة وهناك العديد الذي يمكنني أن اقوله ولكن لن اتطرق له الآن. ولكن من أين اتعلم أنا وباقي الآباء اي شيء حسن؟ فهناك معلم واحد فقط بارع وهو ابونا يعقوب وابوته. فإدا كنت ترغب في المفتاح الأصلي لرحمة الله تحتاج أن تذهب إلى ابونا يعقوب وافعل بالظبط كل ما يطلبه منك…

المكان: الكنيسة العربي
كل آباء الكنيسة عبر الثلاثة أيام، وكلمات روحية قصيرة لتناسب المتحدثين باللغة الإنجليزية واللغة العربية.
وسيتم أيضاً البث المباشر على اليوتيوب لمن لا يستطيع الجضور.
