Q&A about Lent
Q: Is having Andeel prayers at home a ritual we must do as Copts during Lent?
Abouna: No it is not, but you lose a lot by not doing this sacrament during Lent.
Q: Abouna, can you explain why it is important please?
Abouna: It is a great source of blessings for many reasons:
1. Abouna’s visit to your house is a blessing by itself. It is biblical. Jesus asked his disciples “enter houses and leave your peace there..”.
2. The visit is even more special during Lent as Abouna comes to share prayers with the family during the most monumental time in the year that Copts pray and fast.
3. The prayer of Andeel is a sacrament where the Holy Spirit descends on the materials (oil in this case), blessing it to become a source of healing of the body and the soul. What a blessing when the Holy Spirit visits your house.
4. Abouna also prays on water and sprinkles it around the house which is another big source of blessing and peace. The church has a long standing faith in this ritual of blessing houses with holy water. We need this peace in our homes.
The Andeel is a great chance the church offers the congregation, as a source of peace, blessing and healing.
Q: But we all feel for you Abouna, often we do not want to add more burden to you by asking you for a visit.
Abouna: On the contrary. We truly love to visit you in your homes and pray with you. Every time we visit a home, we get closer to each member of the family, kids as well as adults. The ritual of Abouna visiting the houses of the congregation is the gift of God to the Coptic church.

2. Weekday Liturgies during Lent
A daily late liturgy will be prayed 1-2:30 pm during lent.
Starting from this Monday 20 February, there will be 3 masses daily (on weekdays).
5-7 am
8:30-10 am
1-2:30 pm

3. Andeel Visits during Lent

4. Special revival during Lent in Monday Arabic Bible Study meeting
Please see poster below (in Arabic) for the schedule. Meetings are on each Monday at 7pm.
5. Interstate Students Service
Dear beloved parents of students studying interstate:
By the Grace of God we are expanding the interstate service this year to include all locations that our youth go to study. This service not only includes serving the interstate students, but creates a loving community amongst the parents by which we can support them through the unfamiliar experience of having a child living away from home. As such we would like to gather the details of as many interstate parents as possible, so that we may notify you regarding interstater parents events where you can discuss your concerns and how the church is serving your child whilst they are away and so that you are able to contact us if you have any specific concerns about your child or how we can serve them better.

6. St Mark’s Church – School of Academic Excellence
St Mark’s Church is introducing a wonderful new initiative for both Primary and early High School students. St Mark’s Church School of Academic Excellence operates every Friday night from 6:30pm to 7:30pm with subjects including: Literacy, Maths and General Ability. Please register your interest to attend the classes via the Google form. Please see the poster below.
7. Prayer Night:
Join us for a night of prayer for the ordination of Johnny.

8. Help keep our Church clean:
We need your help, please take note of the following requests:
1) Pick up your rubbish and dispose of it thoughtfully.
2) Recycle correctly – check the labels on the bins.
3) Please don’t bring any furniture donations as we have so many odd chairs and tables – please ask first if we need it.
4) Check the lost and found box in front of the bookshop before it goes to the Smith Family!

س: هل صلاة القنديل في المنزل طقس يجب ان يمارسه الأقباط في الصوم الكبير؟
أبونا: لا، ليس الأمر كذلك، ولكنك تخسر الكثير في عدم ممارسة هذا السر خلال الصوم الكبير
س: هل ممكن قدسك تشرح لنا ايه أهميته؟
أبونا: هو مصدر رائع لبركات عديدة منها:
أ. إن زيارة أبونا لمنزلك في حد ذاتها بركة. وهو أمر كتابي. السيد المسيح طلب من تلاميذه أن يزوروا المنازل ويتركوا سلامهم لأهل المنزل
ب. هذه الزيارة لها طابع خاص خلال الصوم الكبير حيث يأتي أبونا ليشاركك ويشارك أسرتك الصلوات في أهم
أيام السنة حيث يقوم الأقباط بالصوم والصلاة
ت. إن صلاة القنديل أحد الأسرار حيث يحل الروح القدس على الزيت ويباركه ليكون مصدر شفاء للنفس والجسد. يا لها من بركة عندما يزور الروح القدس منزلك
ث. ويصلي أبونا أيضاً على الماء ويرشه حول المنزل، الأمر الذي بدوره يكون مصدر كبير للبركة والسلام. إن الكنيسة لها إيمان طويل الأمد وراسخ بطقس تبريك المنازل بالمياه المقدسة. نحن في حاجة إلى هذا السلام في منازلنا
إن صلاة القنديل هي فرصة بركة عظيمة تهديها الكنيسة لشعبها، كمصدر سلام وبركة وشفاء.
س: نحن نتعاطف معك أبونا، لا نريد أن نثقل عليك ونطلب منك زيارتنا
أبونا: على العكس، نحن بالحقيقة نحب زيارتكم في منازلكم ونحب أن نصلي لكم. في كل مرة نزور فيها بيت، نحن نقترب أكثر فأكثر من كل فرد في العائلة، الأطفال والكبار. إن طقس زيارة أبونا لمنازل الشعب هي هدية الله للكنيسة القبطية.

٥. خدمة الطلبة الذين يدرسون في ولايات خارج ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز
أولياء أمور الطلاب الذين يدرسون بين الولايات الأعزاء:
بنعمة ربنا، سنقوم بتوسيع الخدمة بين الولايات هذا العام لتشمل جميع المناطق التي يذهب إليها شبابنا/ شباتنا للدراسة. لن تشمل هذه الخدمة خدمة الطلاب فحسب، بل العمل أيضاً تشمل خلق مجتمعًا محبًا بين أولياء الأمور يمكننا من خلاله دعمهم وسط هذه التجربة غير المألوفة المتمثلة في إقامة شاب/ شابة بعيدًا عن المنزل. ولذلك، نود أن نجمع بيانات أكبر عدد ممكن من الآباء والأمهات الذين لديهم شباب يدرس خارج الولاية التي يقيمون فيها، حتى نتمكن من إخطارهم بالمناسبات التي تجمع هؤلاء حيث يمكنهم مناقشة مخاوفهم وكيف تخدم الكنيسة أبنائهم وبناتهم أثناء تواجدهم بعيدًا ويتمكنوا أيضاً من الاتصال بنا إذا كان لديهم أي مخاوف محددة بشأن أبنائهم وبناتهم أو اي اقتراح يمكننا به خدمتهم بشكل أفضل.
