Contemplation (verse 1-11)
If you wish to find Him, the sun is now rising. Come like those women, that is, with hearts devoid of the darkness of evil, as the lusts of the body and the evil deeds are all darkness. Whoever has darkness of this sort, will never behold the lights or have Christ; since Christ is light. Brethren, cast away the darkness from yourselves: namely, cast away all evil lusts and deeds. Have the sweet fragrance, which is the zealous prayer, saying with the Psalmist, “Let my prayer be set before You as incense.” (Psalm 141:2) If you wish to behold the Lord, and to come to your heavenly home, you will have to forsake the evil, abiding in the goodness that you started to adopt.
+ St Ambrose
Personal Reflection
What do I need to let go of to seek God? What is it that’s distracting me, and tempting me away every time I think of discovering what a closer relationship with Him would be like?
Bible Knowledge Question
Why did some women go to Jesus’ tomb after the Sabbath, and who were the women?
Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to seek You, to want to spend time with You, help me to let go of the evil in my heart and take a step towards You instead. Help me to want to find You, then help me seek You, and then help me find You as You promised us that he who seeks You will find You. Amen.
