Contemplation
“When the wicked rise, their pride blinds them, and they demand the honour that belongs to God alone. Haman sought worship for himself, but the righteous man does not bow to false glory. Mordecai’s steadfast refusal was not arrogance, but loyalty — for the servant of God cannot give to man what is due only to the Lord. God allows the proud to lift themselves high so that their fall may be seen by all. And when the faithful stand firm, even in danger, they become instruments through whom God reveals His power and justice.”
+ St Ephrem the Syrian
Personal Reflection
Mordecai refused to bow to Haman, even though everyone else did. Where am I tempted to “bow” to things that pull me away from loyalty to God? Am I willing to stand for what is right even if I stand alone?
Bible Knowledge Question
What did Haman plan to do after learning that Mordecai would not bow to him?
Prayer
Lord, give us the courage of Mordecai — a heart that refuses to bow to anything that takes Your place. When the world pressures us to compromise, keep us loyal to You. Protect us from fear, strengthen us to stand for truth, and guide our steps as You guided Your people in the time of Esther. May our loyalty bring glory to Your name, even in difficult moments.
Amen.
