Father Youstos El Antony. Claim to fame: a simple monk from the monastery of St Anthony. His great asceticism shone through the fact that his cell had nothing in it, not even a mat, a chair or picture. His miracles indeed were many, and still remembered today. Quote: he became famous for the virtue of silence. He had a well-known saying to the visitors of the monastery, asking: “what is the time?” his intention in asking this, was to alert everyone to the nuances and transience of mortal life. Fun fact: the abbot of St Anthony’s monastery chose the name of this saint, seeking his intercession.
