Contemplation (verse 20): Once more Paul jumps on the law but this time with restraint, for what he says is an accusation not against the law but against the negligence of the covenant people. The law accomplished its task of disclosing sin to them, but then it was their duty to flee it. But since they did not flee it, they brought an even greater punishment on themselves, and the good deeds of the law have just provided an excuse for greater chastisement from God. (+ St John Chrysostom)
Personal Reflection: Do we understand that the purpose of knowing the Law or Scripture is to lead us to humility and to Christ, not to pride or judgment of others?
Bible Knowledge Question: What is the purpose of the law?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us truly understand the weight of our sin, leading us to death. That nothing we could have done or could do would erase our wrong-doings with You but only through Your only begotten Son were we made worthy again for eternal life
