Contemplation (verse 14-18)
..that text carries two meanings: The literal meaning .. and the symbolic meaning, in order to encounter the Lord Christ, coming to our hearts … Thus, if the Lord is proclaiming to His disciples the futility of resisting … or coexisting with them; being impossible to hide from them in a city, it is likewise, fitting, as our fight with the devil grows more fierce, not to face him, nor to coexist with him, but should rather escape to the Lord Himself, being the Holy mountain who bears us inside Him. (+ Fr Tadros Malaty)
Our escape to the mountains, means ascension to the heights of virtue, in order not to descend to the depths of sin. (+ St. Jerome)
We should avoid sin fervently, not reluctantly and coldly. (+ Fr. Theophlactius)
Personal Reflection: Do I read the words concerning the end of the world as irrelevant to me? How can I relate to it?
Bible Knowledge Question: What is one promise and one warning Christ told us in this passage? (There are multiple)
Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to prepare my heart for You. Whether the end of the world is here or not, my days on earth are limited, help me not to spend those days chasing sin or attempting to fight the devil alone, help me flee to You and Your haven, to truly encounter You and spend time with You. Help me to escape temptations not wallow in them, and help me want You more than I want sin. Amen.
