Contemplation (verses 9-15): The prophet Elijah was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot, leaving behind his disciple Elisha, who requested a double portion of his spirit. This request was not out of pride, but a desire to carry on the prophetic mission with greater zeal and responsibility. Elisha’s subsequent miracles affirmed that the spirit of Elijah rested upon him, signifying the continuity of God’s work through His chosen servants. ____ + Fr Tadros Malaty

Personal Reflection: Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit—do I ask God boldly for spiritual growth? Or am I too focused on temporary pleasures to desire heavenly things?

Bible Knowledge Question: What did Elisha request from Elijah before Elijah was taken up to heaven?

Prayer: Lord, awaken in me a longing for the things that matter, not for the pleasures of this world. Clothe me in Your purity and fill me with Your Spirit. Amen.
