Spiritual message of the week by Father David:

Happy and Blessed Feast of our Lords Resurrection!

These joyful 50 days are called "joyous" for many reasons.

Not only does meat and chicken taste much, much better on Wednesdays and Fridays but During these joyous days it is a lovely opportunity to contemplate on what the Resurrection means to me.

One may think it’s great that Jesus died and resurrected, but how does that affect me in my daily life? I’m still falling into sin and weaknesses, drowning in my desires and losing hope in sustaining spiritual success.

The answer to this can be found in the prayers of the Friday Theotokia:

"He took what is ours to be His very own so that we might have from that which is His."

Because Christ is Risen, a number of things change in our lives.

This means that He took our weaknesses, and gave us His strength.

Christs death, gives us salvation.

We used to be mortal and now have the capacity to live eternally in heaven with Him.

We used to have limited love in our interactions with others but now the Lord has given us from His own heart the ability to love unconditionally just as He loves us and overlooks our many shortcomings.

We may have a lack of forgiveness towards others, the Lord takes this limited ability to forgive and replaces it with His remarkable ability to forgive in ways we could never do before.

Christ’s resurrection affects every aspect of my life, my Ability to endure hardship, sickness, frustration struggles, and pain has also all been transformed.

Through Christs resurrection we now have a renewed Christ-like ability to give, forgive, to love, to sacrifice and to endure.

St Paul says: “He was rich but he became poor for our sake, so that we might be enriched by His poverty.” (2 Cor. 8:9).

Thank you my Risen Lord for taking my inadequacies and weaknesses and giving me the ability to ask for your unwavering strength, love and compassion.

If I’m drowning in sin, in weaknesses and losing hope…then these joyful 50 days are really a time of hopefulness, and reminder that "He took what is ours and gave us what is His"…and this is a big reason for us to "praise and glorify Him and exalt Him"

4. Cornerstone Project – the church is in need of your support

We invite you to participate in a pivotal initiative to build St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church for future generations. We Need Your Support Through Monthly Direct Debits (Tax Deductible). As we aim to secure stable and certain income for these essential projects, we are asking each member of our congregation to consider a monthly commitment to our building fund for the next three years.

9. Biggest Loser Weight Loss Competition – starting this Monday 20 May

St Mark’s Church Sydney will be hosting a Biggest Loser weight loss competition! This is your chance to be part of the movement for weight loss. We have seen and know how much it will benefit our health and wellbeing.

When?

The competition will start on Monday 20th May and end on 12th July with Apostles Feast

Who can join?

Anyone. This competition is available for everyone who wants the opportunity to lose weight. It is recommended only for adults, for children we will run a healthy family initiative after this competition.

What are the terms?

All participants will put a contribution of $200 to join the competition. The top 3 winners will be awarded top prizes for their hard work. Everyone else’s money will be donated to the church. Winners will be determined by the amount of weight lost, which will only be visible to the 1 female servant who will monitor your weight weekly.

Why?

How many times have you tried to lose weight? What is needed is a collective lifestyle change. This competition will provide that by the following means:

+ Regular spiritual counselling by Fr Jacob, who will also be competing. This will include Andeel prayers every fortnight for participants and a prayer program for self control.

+ The opportunity to eat better as a family; to encourage a whole family to become healthier together. It is important to note children are excluded from the biggest loser, but as a family, a living healthier initiative is more appropriate.

+ Healthcare professional input including: GPs for general advice, Paediatrician for children, Dietitian for dietary support, Physiotherapist for exercise programming. Diets will be supplied and exercise programs supplied to suit general needs for weight loss.

+ The benefit of accountability and collective support. Because we will all be doing this together, we will all join a specific WhatsApp Group for this competition- it is supportive and encouraging to do it together as a community.

How?

+ Once per week we will have a 30-minute meeting at the church hall, where 1 servant will weigh you and record your weight. Your weight will be confidential from all participants. This meeting will also include a word of encouragement from Fr Jacob.

+ At the end of the competition, the servant will determine top 3 weight losses and prizes will be awarded accordingly.

+ First Prize is $1000, Second is $600 and Third is $300.

عيد قيامة مجيد وسعيد لكم جميعاً!

تُدعى الأيام الخمسين هذه بالخمسين المفرحة لعدة أسباب.

فليس فقط مذاق اللحم والفراخ جميل جدا جدا أيام الأربعاء والجمعة، بل أن التأمل خلال هذه الأيام المفرحة في معنى القيامة بالنسبة لي هو فرصة رائعة.

قد يظن الفرد أن موت وقيامة السيد المسيح هو شيء جميل، ولكن كيف يؤثر ذلك على حياتي اليومية؟ انا لا زلت أسقط في الخطية والضعف، غرقان في الرغبات وفاقد الأمل في الاستمرار في حياة روحية ناجحة.

يمكن إيجاد الرد في صلوات ثيؤطوكية الجمعة:

"أخذ الذي لنا واعطانا الذي له"

بسبب قيامة السيد المسيح تغيرت أشياء كثيرة في حياتنا.

هذا يعني أنه أخذ ضعفنا وأعطانا قوته.

أن موت السيد المسيح يعطينا الخلاص.

قد كنا هالكين والآن لدينا القدرة على الحياة معه إلى الأبد في السماء.

قد كنا محدودين في محبتنا في تعاملاتنا مع الآخرين ولكن الآن اعطانا الله من قلبه القدرة على المحبة غير المشروطة كما احبنا هو وتغاضى عن نقائصنا العديدة.

قد نفتقر إلى تسامح الآخرين، فيأخذ الله هذه القدرة المحدودة الغير قادرة على التسامح، ويستبدلها بقدرة فائقة على التسامح بطرق لم نختبرها من قبل.

إن قيامة السيد المسيح تؤثر في كل جانب من جوانب حياتي، قدرتي على تحمل الصعوبات، والمرض، والاحباطات والصراعات وحتى الألم قد تحول هو أيضاً.

من خلال قيامة السيد المسيح أصبح لدينا قدرة متجددة مثل تلك التي للسيد المسيح للعطاء والتسامح والمحبة، للتضحية والاحتمال.

يقول القديس بولس الرسول: "أنه من اجلكم افتقر وهو غني لكي تستغنوا أنتم بفقره" (كورونثوس الثانية ٨ :٩)

أشكرك ربي القائم من الأموات لأخذك ضعفاتي وآثامي واعطائي القدرة على طلب القوة والمحبة والعطف الذي لا ينتهي.

إذا كنت غارق في خطية، في ضعف أو فاقد الأمل، فإن هذه الخمسين يوماً المفرحة هي بالفعل وقت أمل ورجاء وتذكرة بأنه " اخذ الذي لنا واعطانا الذي له" ولهذا السبب نقول " سبحوه ومجدوه وزيدوه علواً"

٩. أكبر مسابقة لفقدان الوزن

ستستضيف كنيسة القديس مار مرقس في سيدني مسابقة "أكبر خاسر" لفقدان الوزن! هذه هي فرصتك لتكون جزءًا من حركة فقدان الوزن. لقد رأينا ونعرف مدى فائدة ذلك لصحتنا وصالحنا العام.

متى؟

تبدأ المسابقة يوم الاثنين 20 مايو وتنتهي في 12 يوليو مع عيد الرسل

من يمكنه الاشتراك؟

أي شخص. هذه المسابقة متاحة لكل من يريد فرصة لإنقاص الوزن. يوصى بها للبالغين فقط، أما بالنسبة للأطفال فسوف نقوم بإدارة مبادرة عائلية صحية بعد هذه المسابقة.
