Contemplation (verse 5)
The real secret of his fear was that the Spirit of God departed from him, because he rebelled against God, and persisted on his rebellion; contrary to David who did not fear any army saying: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?… Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear” (Psalm 27: 1).

Personal Reflection
Saul had fought in many battles… why was Saul so afraid this time? Has something similar happened to me in my life?
Bible Knowledge Question
What did Saul do when he was afraid before the battle against the Philistines in chapter 28?
Prayer
Lord, please help me to run to You in difficult times, and not resort to my own measures. Please guard us and protect us from going further away from You, and not continue to fall further away as Saul did.
