And His commandments are not burdensome<\/p><cite>1 John 5:3<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, \u201cSimon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?\u201d He said to Him, \u201cYes, Lord; You know that I love You.\u201d He said to him, \u201cFeed My lambs.\u201d He said to him again a second time, \u201cSimon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?\u201d He said to Him, \u201cYes, Lord; You know that I love You.\u201d He said to him, \u201cTend My sheep.\u201d He said to him the third time, \u201cSimon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?\u201d Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, \u201cDo you love Me?\u201d And he said to Him, \u201cLord, You know all things; You know that I love You.\u201d Jesus said to him, \u201cFeed My sheep.<\/p><cite>John 21:15-17<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commentary<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>And yet Christ the Lord wanted to indicate how people ought to show that they love Christ. And he made it plain enough by entrusting him with his sheep. \u201cDo you love me?\u201d \u201cI do.\u201d \u201cFeed my sheep.\u201d All this once, all this a second time, all this a third time. Peter made no other reply than that he loved Him. The Lord asked no other question but whether he loved Him. When Peter answered, our Lord did nothing else but entrust his sheep to him.<\/p><cite>St Augustine<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>1. In the first two passages, it is clear that if we love God we must do His commandments. But can\u2019t I still love Him even if\/when I don\u2019t follow His commandments?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. When Peter confesses his love, why does Christ repeats the instruction three times?
