Old Testament Passage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

3\u00a0<\/strong>Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold \u2026 then a herald cried\u00a0aloud: \u201cTo you it is commanded,\u00a0O peoples \u2026 5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>that<\/em>\u00a0at the time you hear the sound of the horn, \u2026 you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up;\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and whoever does not fall down and worship shall\u00a0be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.\u201d \u2026<\/p>

8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans\u00a0came forward and [said] \u2026 12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>There are certain Jews \u2026 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have\u00a0not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.\u201d<\/p>

13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Nebuchadnezzar, in\u00a0rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king.\u00a014\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, \u201cIs it<\/em>\u00a0true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego,\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?\u00a0<\/p>

16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, \u201cO Nebuchadnezzar,\u00a0we have no need to answer you in this matter.\u00a017\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>If that\u00a0is the case,<\/em>\u00a0our\u00a0God whom we serve is able to\u00a0deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver\u00a0us<\/em>\u00a0from your hand, O king.\u00a018\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we\u00a0worship the gold image which you have set up.\u201d<\/p>

19\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury \u2026. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.\u00a020\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who\u00a0were<\/em>\u00a0in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego,\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0cast\u00a0them<\/em>\u00a0into the burning fiery furnace.\u00a0\u2026<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>

24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0spoke, saying to his\u00a0counselors, \u201cDid we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?\u201d<\/p>

They answered and said to the king, \u201cTrue, O king.\u201d<\/p>

25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cLook!\u201d he answered, \u201cI see four men loose,\u00a0walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like\u00a0theSon of God.\u201d<\/p>

26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the\u00a0mouth of the burning fiery furnace\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0spoke, saying, \u201cShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the\u00a0Most High God, come out, and come\u00a0here.<\/em>\u201d Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire.\u00a027\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king\u2019s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men\u00a0on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.<\/p>Daniel 3:1-27<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
