Characters of Holy Week – Malchus

$5.00

St. Mark’s Coptic Church presents this inaugural edition of a new series, focusing upon the characters of Passion Week. Each year, we will focus upon one character, seeing what we can learn from their interaction with the Lord by reading the accounts of the Gospel and the commentaries of the fathers. Our character for Volume 1 is Malchus, the servant of the high priest, whose ear was cut off by St. Peter.

Description

“Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus” John 18: 10

Each year during Passion Week, we are trained to focus our eyes upon the Lord, and upon the events of His last week on earth. We follow Him from His victorious entry into Jerusalem to His agonising death at Golgotha, and then we watch as He resurrects in His glory.

Along this journey, we also meet many other characters whose lives were touched by the Lord. Some are well known, like the disciples of the Lord. Others however, are only briefly mentioned and little is known of them in the Gospels.

It is with great joy therefore, that St. Peter.

We pray that the Lord may touch us and heal us, just like He did to Malchus.
